About Matter, by Lidia Bosevski

Lidia Bosevski, a ceramicist who finds inspiration in the essence of matter, shares in the Ceramics and Nature workshop manual:

It is amazing how many types of materials we can use in the medium of ceramics, almost all of them in some way.

Having an affirmative attitude toward matter as we express ourselves through it, makes works emerge, that is truly precious. Communication between matter and our sensibility, intuition, our inner impulses, is extremely important especially for us ceramists because we work with living matter that is the center of everything. Its structure contains tremendous records of all the changes (millions of years), it is in a constant process of transformation.

In addition to clay as the basic building material, I use various types of stone, soil, sand, sludge, mud... Some of them are an addition to the body of clay, for surface design, and many are for making natural glazes. After collecting the very first materials (clay, pebbles of iron oxide, humus under the tree, clay on the way from home to the studio) I started noticing an endless amount of materials every time I go out into nature, which aroused my curiosity.”

Her words inspire the unique approach of this course, where the relationship between ceramics and nature comes to life. If you want to explore this creative universe, join the Ceramics and Nature Course and let yourself be transformed by the magic of living matter.
