HERBARIUM

TILE PAINTING WORKSHOP

Here, nature and ceramics will come together to awaken your creativity.

Using the natural heritage that Cerdeira provides, this tile painting workshop is an invitation to connect ceramics with the biodiversity surrounding us here in the village. The surrounding nature and forest of Cerdeira will be our starting point. Here, you will develop your attention and observation skills by creating a ceramic herbarium where you will capture the beauty of Cerdeira's natural universe.

Over three and a half days, Cristina will introduce you to different ceramic expression techniques. You will have the opportunity to apply these techniques to tiles and create unique shapes, textures, and patterns, using the vast repertoire of plants and greenery in Cerdeira as a source of inspiration.

At the end of this workshop, you will take home a herbarium composed of tiles that will remind you of the learning and art experience here, the richness of biodiversity, and the reflection of our special place - Cerdeira.

 

Cristina Vilarinho is an artist-craftswoman-illustrator-teacher who enjoys interdisciplinarity, eclecticism, beauty, and human, cultural, or natural biodiversity. She graduated from ESAD (School of Art and Design of Matosinhos), specialized in tile work through CEARTE, and co-founded the "Projecto A 2" studio, which she manages with Alberto Azevedo.

Inspired by nature, literature, music, textiles, and embroidery, Cristina has regularly been welcomed at Cerdeira as an educator and artist. She has generously shared her creations at the "Elementos à Solta - Art meets Nature" festival and her expertise in tile work and painting, ceramic decoration, and drawing. She is also responsible for the artistic intervention at Casa do Forno. 

We are delighted to welcome her back to guide us in our search for inspiration in the nature surrounding Cerdeira, using natural elements as tools and objects for artistic creation.

WORKSHOP DETAILS

SCHEDULE

Day 28: 4 pm to 7 pm.

Day 29-31: 10 am to 6 pm, with a 2-hour lunch break.

PROGRAM:

  • Creation of a ceramic herbarium inspired by Cerdeira's natural heritage;

  • Ceramic process and hand tiling;

  • Drawing exercises, textures, and tile composition using natural elements collected in Cerdeira;

  • Tile painting;

  • Pattern development;

  • Application of ceramic tiles  techniques - stenciling, dry cord, and sgraffito technique;

  • Use of glazes and oxides;

  • Glazing of textured tiles.

CONDITIONS

• Enrollments up to 1 month before the course start date.

THE COURSE FEE INCLUDES:

  • Integration in a small workgroup.

  • Training 5-6 hours a day, spoken in English and Portuguese;

  • All the materials needed for the course;

  • Lunch on course days;

  • Free accommodation in our hostel during the course (upon availability). The hostel is equipped with a dormitory, kitchen, shared bathrooms, washing machine, towels, bed linen, and wi-fi;

  • 10% discount on the base rate when booking an individual house (minimum of 2 nights). The base rate refers to a stay of 2 people and includes breakfast, equipped kitchen, towels, bed linen, and wi-fi.

CANCELLATION POLICY FOR COURSES AND WORKSHOPS

You may withdraw within 14 days of registration, paying the correspondent transfer fees. Following the EU consumer protection legislation, payments are not refunded past 14 days of registration. The payment will be fully reimbursed if the training cannot be held because of insufficient students.

Suppose the training is canceled by Cerdeira - Home For Creativity for reasons of significant force such as a pandemic, civil disorder, a natural catastrophe, medical or family issues of the teacher, and others beyond our control. In that case, Cerdeira will offer a voucher for a different workshop of your choice. The voucher is valid for two years.
