Your stool in green wood Workshop

WITH PETER LANYON

The Green Woodworking Workshop is two-day introduction to the technique of green woodworking by making your own stool - simple in design and emphasising the beauty of our raw material from the forest surrounding Cerdeira Home For Creativity.

Tutored by Peter Lanyon, you will learn how to handle the different hand tools to prepare the various pieces that make up your work and at the end join them together and take home a new piece of furniture.

This year, we will have a third day, specially dedicated to learn how to sharpen and maintain your tools. Well sharpende and cared tool are fundamental to the success of our work. If you have some good old chisels at home you want to bring back to life, just bring them with you!

TAKE HOME A UNIQUE HANDMADE WOOD PIECE!

Learn how to make a piece in wood freely and following your own design. We will use freshly cut round wood to create your creative and unique woodwork.

Free Form refers to a style of woodworking that uses irregular and curved pieces of wood. In the Green Woodworking Workshop you will learn how to drill and make a perfect join of these elements.

The Green Woodworking Workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to try working with wood in direct contact to nature. make something unique as an expression of their personality.

Peter Lanyon presents himself as a designer and furniture maker, teacher for green woodworking and community project coordinator, but he is so much more.

He combines many years of woodworking experience as a designer and woodworker, both workshop based and academic learning in design and technologies, with countless jobs in public spaces and exhibitions and a great pleasure to share his knowledge and teach, and that is what makes this artist week so unique.

 

Peter Lanyon

His work brings together the skills, tools and technology of the fine furniture maker, and fuses this with ancient ‘bodging’ traditions of working unseasoned timber, where nothing is straight, or predictable. He likes to combine green (unseasoned) wood with modern materials and furniture techniques to bring something fresh and new to the world of bespoke furniture.

He works mainly with locally copped wood and fallen trees. His philosophy is one of minimum intervention - imposing as little as possible on the materials, leaving the gentle curves as nature intended.

GREEN WOODWORKING WORKSHOP DETAILS

SCHEDULE:

10 am to 6 pm (two hours lunch break)

May 6th: sharpening tools day.

CONDITIONS

• Enrollments up to 2 months before the course start date.

• Special discount for our community members.

 

THE COURSE FEE INCLUDES:

• Integration in a small workgroup (up to 10 participants in total)

• Training 5-6 hours a day, speaking in English and with support in Portuguese;

• Sharpening tools day (May 6th);

• Lunch on course days;

• All the materials needed for the course;

• Free accommodation in our hostel during the course (upon availability). The hostel is equipped with a dormitory, kitchen, shared bathrooms, washing machine, towels, bed linen, and wi-fi;

• 10% discount on the base rate when booking an individual house (minimum of 2 nights). The base rate refers to a stay of 2 people and includes breakfast, equipped kitchen, towels, bed linen, and wi-fi.

CANCELLATION POLICY FOR COURSES AND WORKSHOPS

You may withdraw within 14 days of registration, paying the correspondent transfer fees. Following the EU consumer protection legislation, payments are not refunded past 14 days of registration. The payment will be fully reimbursed if the training cannot be held because of insufficient students.

Suppose the training is canceled by Cerdeira - Home For Creativity for reasons of significant force such as a pandemic, civil disorder, a natural catastrophe, medical or family issues of the teacher, and others beyond our control. In that case, Cerdeira will offer a voucher for a different workshop of your choice. The voucher is valid for two years.
