Casa do Mel
Casa do Mel (the Honey House) honors an ancient tradition at Serra da Lousã. The honey of this region, with an intense amber color, comes from the nectar of the wild heather that spreads the mountain valleys with its beautiful lilac flowers. As in the village, bees work together to achieve a life in harmony with nature, and Casa do Mel is its best example.
Located right in the center of Cerdeira, this house embodies the feeling of living in a village. The entrance to the house is on the ground floor, which gives access to a social area with a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area, a bathroom with a shower, and a cozy living room with a wood burner and a sofa. Upstairs, there’s a bedroom with a double bed that has a small balcony to the outside with a wonderful view over the schist houses’ traditional roofs and the valley.
Like all the other houses in Cerdeira, the Casa do Mel has been restored using ecological and regional materials and favoring the use of local contractors. All houses have central heating and offer great comfort in winter and summer. You will find basic staples in the kitchen, such as salt, sugar, spices, olive oil, and vinegar. To guarantee that you make the most out of the village’s quietness, we have chosen not to install TVs in any of the houses. All houses have a wi-fi connection.
To make the most of your stay, you can book one of our Creative Experiences or join one of the Workshops and Courses we host throughout the year at our Arts & Crafts School.
ImAGE GALLERy
artistic creations
Diana Cunha discovered her calling for yarn and textiles at the age of 40. After 20 years of a career in banking, she decided that it was time to give free rein to her creativity and embark on the artistic path she still lives on today. Diana learned tapestry, macramé and embroidery and now she uses these ancient arts to bring to life contemporary pieces that convey her personal style. In 2016, she opened her studio “Atelier 166” where she creates her pieces and teaches these techniques to anyone who wants to learn.
Inspired by the “honey” theme, it was Diana who created the macramé pieces for this house (living room and bedroom) that portray the honeycombs of a beehive and the mountains of Serra da Lousã.
